Preparing Your First Product Listing
Your first product listing does not need to be perfect.
It does need to be clear.
Step 1: Write the one-line promise
Finish this sentence:
This product helps [buyer] do [job] without [pain].
If you cannot write that sentence, the listing is not ready yet.
Step 2: List the proof
Gather the evidence a buyer will want:
- Screenshots.
- Demo notes.
- Compatibility information.
- Setup instructions.
- Changelog.
- Support policy.
- License terms.
Step 3: Pick the license model
Decide whether the product is:
- One-time purchase.
- Subscription.
- Major-version ownership.
- Multiple license tiers.
- Custom license.
Read Choosing a Software License Model if you are unsure.
Step 4: Price for the buyer value
Do not price by file size.
Price by the problem solved, the time saved, the support required, and the quality of the product.
Read Pricing Software Without Guessing for a deeper pass.
Step 5: Publish when it answers buyer questions
Before publishing, ask:
- Who is this for?
- What does it do?
- What does it cost?
- What do buyers get?
- What are the limitations?
- Where do buyers get support?
If those answers are clear, you are much closer than most listings on the internet.
